Fighting
Your Worst Fibromyalgia Pain.
Fibromyalgia (FMS) is a widespread musculoskeletal pain and fatigue
disorder that affects the fibrous tissues throughout the bodies
of men and women of all ages.
Most patients say they ache all over.
They may complain of sporadic twitching and burning sensations.
You may have great difficulty sleeping
and feel sluggish when you awaken. You may feel as if your personal
power supply has been unplugged.
Most FMS patients have a sleep disorder
where deep sleep is constantly interrupted by bursts of awakening
brain activity. You may also suffer from sleep myoclunus, restless
leg syndrome and bruxism, or teeth-grinding.
Frequent headaches and irritable bowel
symptoms are also common. You may experience constant or intermittent
symptoms of TMJ (seen in 90 percent of FMS patients), along with
sporadic bouts of intense, acute facial pain.
About half of FMS patients also have
multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) to odors, foods, noises, bright
lights and various medications. Other common symptoms include painful
menses or dysmenorrhea, chest pains, cognitive difficulties, memory
loss or other impairments, irritable bladder, dizziness, numbness,
tingling sensations and impaired coordination.
The symptoms of FMS are so similar to
chronic fatigue syndrome, some researchers believe the two conditions
may actually be one and the same, if not closely related.
FMS revolves around many issues that
are neither simply medical nor medically simple.
